CATOOSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist women's golf team sits in eighth after round one of the 23rd Annual NSU Golf Classic at the Cherokee Hills Golf Club. OBU's four lowest scores combined for 316 (+36) to garner a spot in the top 10 amongst a pool of 15 squads.
Freshman Morgan Becker led the Bison's efforts today, opening with a 75 (+3) to rank in a tie for 11th out of 84 players. Becker shot three-over on the front nine, a team-best, before cutting her strokes by one to finish two-over on the backstretch. Additionally, Becker sunk two birdies.
Hayden Meiser, competing in her first tournament of the season, shot a 77 (+7) to place in a tie for 24th. Meiser ranks in a tie for second for most pars (12) in the entire competition, as she made par on six straight holes on the back nine. Freshman Sam Lehr finished two strokes behind, good for a tie at 34th. Lehr's run included two birdies, matching her first-year teammate, Becker.
Josie Patterson, Karlee Holcomb, and Valentina Nunez-Butzonitch each shot 82 (+12), landing in a four-way tie for 43rd. Patterson was the only one to record a birdie out of the trio.
Lindyn Ross and Rylie Spaulding rounded out OBU's action today, shooting 91 (+21) and 94 (+24). Both are in ties for 76th and 79th overall.
Action at the NSU Golf Classic continues with round two tomorrow in Catoosa.
