2021-22 Top Moment #5: Bison Claim Heritage Bowl

SHAWNEE – A win on December 4, 2021 against UT-Permian Basin at the FunTown RV Heritage Bowl in Corsicana, Texas had significant implications for the Bison football team.

Those important elements: a season-record eight wins and the program's first-ever postseason bowl victory. By the end of the three-hour, 12-minute game, the green and gold had delivered.

The Bison defense provided a season-best performance while senior running back Tyler Stuever totaled 150 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Through the first three quarters, OBU's defense gave up just seven points and in five of UTPB's 11 offensive possessions, surrendered single-digit yard totals. In that time, Oklahoma Baptist's offense helped the team attain a 24-7 advantage.

Sparked by a 21-0 run over the second and third periods, the Bison got touchdowns from Stuever, Preston Haire and Josh Cornell. Then in the fourth, when the Falcons got back in it, OBU's defense rose to the occasion to seal the win.

In the final six minutes, the Falcons had two possessions to work with trailing 24-21. In each of those, the Bison forced punts. The last boot from UTPB got OBU the ball back with 2:59 on the clock and a third-and-two conversion by Stuever, who ran 26 yards to the Falcons' three-yard line, iced the game.
