TROPHY CLUB, Texas – Freshman Karlee Holcomb finished in a tie for seventh overall to lead the Oklahoma Baptist women's golf team at the Lion Invitational. The Bison concluded the event ranked eighth among 10 teams.
Holcomb earned a career-best finish and the highest overall placing for OBU this spring. She turned in a third-round 83 (+11), highlighted by a four-over finish on the front nine, to lock in a tie for the number seven spot.
The Amarillo, Texas, native ranked sixth among the competition in par 3s (+2) and birdies (5). Holcomb steered the way for OBU in all three rounds, posting a 77 and 78 in rounds one and two. Additionally, the five-over finish on the first 18 tied her second-best finish of the year.
Lindyn Ross followed her teammate with a final round 80 (+8), landing her 33rd overall. Ross jumped six spots in the standings from yesterday, shaving her score by two strokes after each round (84, 82, 80). She charted matching 40's on the front and back nine, a one-stroke improvement, on each, from Monday.
Josie Patterson made the largest improvement for OBU in the third round. She shot a team-best 79 (+7) for a tie at 23rd, 12 spots up from the beginning rounds. Patterson's three-over on the back nine was the team's best score of the day, including six pars.
Hayden Meiser finished in a tie for 38th, while Valentina Nunez-Butzonitch chipped in a couple of birdies en route to a closing round 84 (+12), good for 45th.
Oklahoma Baptist will be back in action on April 4-5 for the Newman Spring Invitational before concluding their season at the GAC Championship on April 10 in Hot Springs, Ark.
