SHAWNEE - Junior
Maxamillian Wheeler steered Oklahoma Baptist to a third-place finish among eight teams for Saturday's 2022 GAC Cross Country Championships. OBU hosted the event as the Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
Wheeler served as the spearhead for the Bison men in the 8000-kilometer race.
He crossed the finish line with a time of 25:00.00, good for fourth overall and a new personal record.
His placement garnered All-GAC First Team honors as well.
Up next was sophomore
Carson Kardokus who crossed the finish line in 25:49.80 and snagged 11th.
Two more Bison checked in inside the top-18. Those were senior
Parker Ables (26:12.30, 15th) and sophomore
Samuel Fantoni (26:29.00, 18th). For Kardokus, Ables and Fantoni, they earned All-GAC Second Team accolades.
OBU's final point-scorer was freshman
James Williams who completed the 8K race in 26:44.20 which was good for 22nd.
With these efforts, the Bison recorded five finishers in the top 25, running at an average time of 26:03.04 and a team score of 70.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is the NCAA Central Region Championship, Nov.19 in Joplin, Mo.
