SHAWNEE – In the concluding round of the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational, Valentina Nunez-Butzonitch chipped in on the 18th hole to tie with Worawalan Siwaiyapram of UAM, forcing the two into a playoff.
The duo started back at hole one, where they would lock up at par before Nunez-Butzonitch sealed the deal with a birdie on the following hole.
The Argentina native took medalist honors after posting a final-round 78, leading a Bison squad who finished second overall, just three strokes shy of first place. Arkansas-Monticello would claim the team title with a 36-hole total of 630 (+54).
This was the first individual win of Nunez-Butzonitch's career after not placing in the top-five in her previous career tournaments. As a squad, OBU earned its highest finish of the fall season.
Senior Hayden Meiser followed up Nunez-Butzonitch in fourth place after shooting seven-over in round two. Meiser also earned individual honors as she finished within the top five of the competition.
Josie Patterson tied for seventh as she turned in a 76 (+4) on the final day, while Izzy Lette tied for 10th with a concluding round 81 (+9). Lindyn Ross moved up one place from yesterday as she finished tied for 12th. Rylei Gunter and Abby Boren each tied for 19th, as they posted matching final round scores of 90.
Rounding out the Bison lineup was senior Kailee McCrary, who tied for 24th after shooting 91 in the final round.
OBU will look forward to next week as they make the short trip over to Edmond for the Grace Shin Invitational, scheduled to run Monday through Tuesday at the Golf Club of Edmond.
