OBU Announces Changes to Season Ticket Program

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced today a number of exciting changes to the process of purchasing season tickets. These updates will provide tremendous new benefits to donors and season ticket holders by simplifying the ticket buying process, upgrading the donor experience, giving fans greater access to their accounts, and making tickets more accessible and affordable.

As the department previously announced on April 12, the Stampede annual fund is returning to its roots as the Bison Athletic Association (BAA). Along with the updated branding, OBU Athletics has eliminated required per seat contributions for season tickets. This change will allow season tickets to be purchased without a donation, while donors who wish to receive game day benefits through their BAA membership can enjoy a 100 percent tax deduction on those gifts.

Additionally, the BAA benefits structure has been adjusted, consolidating membership levels and enhancing benefits. As noted above, the most significant change for donors is the announcement that gifts to the BAA will now be 100 percent tax-deductible and can be completed online at OBUBison.com/BAA.

Coinciding with the changes to the donor program, an updated pricing model has been adopted for football season tickets. With the elimination of required per seat donations, OBU Athletics has developed a new, simplified price structure that lowers the overall cost of reserved season tickets for Bison football. For the fall 2021 season, seats in Section 2 (green seats) will be $100.00, while seats in Sections 1 and 3 (gold seats) will be $60.00, plus applicable processing fees.

Finally, the OBU Athletics Department has partnered with a new ticketing platform, Glitnir Ticketing, to provide enhanced customer service, as well as give fans more access to their ticket account. Additional information on logging in to view online accounts can be found at OBUBison.com/Tickets.

In an effort to address frequently asked questions, the following information has been provided as a reference, outlining the impact of these changes, as well as offering specific examples of how the changes might impact individual season ticket holders. Additional details, including updated 2021 football renewal forms and BAA donation statements, have been mailed to current OBU football season ticket holders.

Fans with additional questions regarding these changes, or about their BAA or season ticket account, are encouraged to contact OBU Athletics at 405.585.5300 or via email at tickets@okbu.edu.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why are these changes being made?
The reasons for the change are three-fold. First, this greatly simplifies the process of purchasing season tickets and making donations to OBU Athletics.

Second, it allows OBU Athletics to sell more season tickets to help create a home field advantage at Crain Family Stadium. It simplifies the process of purchasing season tickets, while also reducing the overall cost of season tickets.

And, third, it allows all donations to the BAA to be 100 percent tax-deductible. Changes to tax law in 2018 eliminated tax deductions for per seat donations, which created a convoluted system for processing gifts and providing tax documents. Donors to the BAA can now rest assured that their contributions will be completely tax deductible.

Do I have to donate to the BAA to buy season tickets?
No. Reserved and general admission season tickets are available without a donation.

Are BAA donations tax-deductible?
Yes. As a result of these changes to BAA and season ticket pricing policy, all donations to the BAA are 100 percent tax-deductible.

Did season ticket prices go up?
No. As a result of these changes, the cost of season tickets has actually gone down. By removing the required per seat donation component for reserved seating, the new pricing model lowered the total cost of purchasing a season ticket by almost 40 percent. See the example below.

EXAMPLE
Previous:
$60 (ticket) + $100 (per seat donation) = $160

New:
$100 (ticket) + no per seat donation = $100

What are the new season ticket prices?
Season ticket prices vary by location. Please see the pricing information below:

Location Ticket Price
Sec. 2 (reserved chairback seating) $100.00
Sec. 1, Sec. 3 (reserved bench seating) $60.00

Processing fees for season tickets are $5.00 per ticket, online or through the box office.

Do I still need to make a donation to the BAA for parking and/or Touchdown Club?
Yes. Game day benefits such as priority parking and access to donor hospitality like the Touchdown Club are based on BAA giving level. Please note that BAA contributions are now 100 percent tax-deductible (see example below) and are not required in order to purchase season tickets.

Additionally, BAA members previously had to purchase additional wristbands for the Touchdown Club if they had more than two season tickets. Under the new benefits plan, BAA members will receive a Touchdown Club season pass for each season ticket in their account.

EXAMPLE
Previous:
BAA donor (Captains Level/$500) with 4 season tickets
Per seat donations (4 x $100) = $400 (non-tax-deductible)
Additional gift = $100 (tax-deductible)

New:
BAA donor (Captains Level/$500) with 4 season tickets
BAA donation ($500) = $500 (100 percent tax deductible)
