Cheer Captures Second Straight NCA National Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Oklahoma Baptist cheer team claimed their second straight National Cheerleaders Association National Championship on Saturday morning.

It marks the second straight season the Bison took home the crown in the D2 All Girl Advanced division as they finished with a score of 96.28, two points clear of second place Davenport. The Bison were the second highest scoring team among all divisions.

The Intermediate division placed third at the event while the OBU Dance team also competed on the national stage.

"We are so proud of all of our teams grit and hard work to navigate training through the pandemic and represent OBU so well at nationals," said Head Coach Jessica Stiles. "These young teams fought to gain the skills needed to compete at a high level and we are looking forward how these student-athletes respond next season with experience under their belts."

The 2020 national competition was canceled due to the COVID-19 and the Bison worked hard to maneuver a new team to compete at the highest level after winning both the advanced and intermediate titles in 2019. OBU overcame a ton of adversity and took advantage of the opportunity on the biggest stage on Saturday.

Oklahoma Baptist will turn their attention to STUNT as they will host the Division II National Championship inside the Noble Complex on April 30 and May 1.
