Women's Golf Finishes Round One in Eighth

CABOT, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist women's golf team opened its second tournament of the season at the Natural State Classic in Cabot, Arkansas, Monday. After round one the Bison sit in a tie for eighth place with Rogers State. OBU shot a first round total of 326 (+38). The University of Missouri St. Louis sits atop the leaderboard after round one with a team score of even-par 288. 

Michelle Carr was the top individual scorer for the Bison, shooting an opening round 79 (+7). This put Carr in a five-way tie for 22nd place overall. Elly Baze and Josie Patterson each posted an 82 (+10) to put them in an eight-way tie for 35th place. Other top finishes for the Bison included Shelby Phillips (+11) and Hayden Meiser (+12). 

Emma Thorngren of UMSL currently sits in first place after shooting 66 (-6) on day one. 

"The track was a little sloppy, but we battled all day long," said OBU head coach Mike Manlapig. "We're excited to play tomorrow and improve on our performance from day one."

The Bison will close out the tournament with a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, March 2, with group one teeing off at 9 a.m.
