SHAWNEE – The 2019 schedules for men's and women's cross country have been made official, Oklahoma Baptist cross country head coach
Matt Kennedy announced Thursday.
Â
The four-meet regular season schedule sees the Bison and Lady Bison travel to three different states before hosting the annual Oklahoma Baptist Invitational.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist opens up the 2019 season at the Central Oklahoma Land Run in Edmond on Sept. 7. The Lady Bison have claimed the team title each year since 2015, while the Bison also claimed first place last year.
Â
After a week off, OBU then heads to Joplin for the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sept. 21. The Stampede will serve as a preview for the Central Region Championships. Oklahoma Baptist's women's team finished ahead of all Division II opposition last season, good for third place overall. The men claimed a 12th-place finish.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist takes another week off to recover before making the trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Chile Pepper Festival, hosted by Arkansas on Oct. 5. The Bison finished 19th in a field of 49 teams last season. The Lady Bison will be making their first appearance in the field since the 2017 season.
Â
A week after the Chile Pepper Festival, OBU hosts its home meet on Oct. 12 in both squads' sole home event of the season. Oklahoma Baptist saw six of seven Lady Bison finish in the top 10 to claim first place in last year's edition of the OBU Invitational. The Bison came away with a third-place finish.
Â
Following the OBU Invitational, both teams will enjoy two weeks of preparation ahead of the Great American Conference Championships in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, on Oct. 26. The Lady Bison will be looking to claim their third-straight GAC crown since becoming a full member of Division II. The Bison will enter the field looking to build off a runner-up finish in 2018.
Â
The Central Region Championships are set for Nov. 9 in Joplin. With a strong enough performance, the Lady Bison can set the stage for a third-straight trip to the NCAA Championship in Sacramento, California, on Nov. 23. The Bison finished 18th out of 28 teams last season.
