LEWISVILLE, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist built on its impressive first-day showing with a better second day at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimming Championships at the LISD Aquatic Center in Lewisville, Texas.
The OBU women, winners of the 200 medley relay the night before, won both the 200 freestyle and the 400 medley relay races on Thursday. The 200 team of
Victoria Fonville,
Julie Day,
Jamie Edwards and
Marizel Van Jaarsveld finished in 1:33.04, a full second-and-a-half ahead of second-place Colorado Mesa.
Julia Cifuentes joined Fonville, Day and Van Jaarsveld as the 400 medley relay winners, touching in 3:48.91, a half-second faster than Colorado Mesa.
Van Jaarsveld added another first to her collection. A day after winning the 200 IM, she finished first in the 400 IM, nearly six seconds faster than the second-place swimmer from Colorado Mines.
The OBU men had great finishes in the relay events as well. A day after winning the 200 medley relay, the men were the 200 freestyle winners with a time of 1:21.12, a half-second better than second. The 200 team consisted of
Robinson Molina,
Austin Saunders, Alexander Leff and Gabriel Knaut. The group just missed on winning the 400 IM relay, finishing two-tenths of a second slower than first-place Colorado Mesa.
The competition continues Friday with the team champion to be determined following Saturday's final events.
