SHAWNEE – Looking to carry their momentum from the program's first-ever Great American Conference title, the Oklahoma Baptist men's cross country team is headed to Joplin, Missouri for the Central Regional Championship.
The Bison are currently ranked 10th in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) regional poll, OBU's best ranking since making the move to Division II in 2017. The top three teams at the regional championship will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Oklahoma Baptist placed 18th at last year's regional meet. And though the Bison got a preview of the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course earlier this season at the Missouri Southern Stampede, the race extends out to 10-kilometers for Saturday's championship event.
Noah Eskew was OBU's top runner at the same meet last year, posting a time of 32:36.5, while
DeAngelo Robles was second among returners to complete the course for OBU in 2018 in a time of 32:56.9.
Cameron Mills (33:16.1),
Jarrett Ellis (33:22.8) and
Garrett Elmore (33:28.1) all raced at the championship last year as well.
The action is set to begin for the Bison at 11:15 AM on Saturday.
