COLUMBIA, Mo. – Oklahoma Baptist wrapped up competition at the Mizzou Invitational on Friday, facing a field represented primarily by Division I opponents.
The Bison men finished with 228 points to finish fifth, claiming the scalp of Division I Cincinnati in the process. Oklahoma Baptist's women's team earned six points, finishing 13th.
The 200 free relay team of
Julie Day,
Rosa Escalante,
Chase Kirby and
Jamie Edwards got the women's team on the board in the first event of the meet, posting a time of 1:38.01 to finish 19th. In the same event on the men's side, Hank Contich,
Alex Leff,
Colton Wyatt and
Daniel Santos finished in sixth with a time of 1:23.56 in the finals.
Chase Hubbard,
Jevonn Cobin,
Jordan Atkins and
Daniel Brown also scored points for the men, finishing 12th in a time of 1:29.04.
Tristan Villa and Will Newman claimed points in the 100 fly, tying in the B finals with matching times of 49.87. Alfredo Arreiche scored in the 500 free after finishing 13th, while Santos finished 13th to score in the 50 free.
Filip Duric posted a time of 4:03.95 in the 400 individual medley to finish 13th as well.
Thomas Peterson and Contich were 14th and 15th overall in the 100 breast, posting times of 56.09 and 56.62, respectively. Newman was 13th in the 100 back after touching the wall in 50.37.
The 800 free relay of
Jocelyn Martinez,
Brooke Newby, Edwards and
Kaelyn Lance scored the final points for the women, claiming 18th with a time of 8:03.55; their finals time was over 26 seconds improved from their preliminary time.
Arrieche continued to show well in the distance events, finishing 10th in the 1,650 free after touching in 16:18.61. Alex Yanchunas helped OBU's cause in the same event, scoring 14th in a time of 17:00.66.
Oklahoma Baptist will take the rest of 2019 off before returning to the pool on Jan. 11, 2020 in dual action against Rose State College and Sterling College in one of just two home meets this season.
