GREENSBORO, N.C. – Oklahoma Baptist received its first NCAA men's national championship Wednesday when
David Lambert won the men's 50 freestyle at the NCAA Division II Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

Lambert, who owns the NCAA Division II record at 19.17, just missed the meet record in the prelims at 19.21 and won the finals in 19.29 seconds. Lambert was at 9.99 seconds at the turn.
JP Goyetche was third at 19.75 after being fourth at the turn.
Andre del Rio swam in the consolation final, placing 15
th at 20.31 seconds. The Bison scored 38 points in the event.
Davion Conley was 38
th at 20.82 in the prelims.

OBU finished second in the 200 medley relay at 1:26.73 with Goyetche,
Fernando Morillas Ramos, del Rio and Lambert.

"Can you believe we're in second?" said OBU Sam Freas. "David (Lambert) swam an 18.7 split on the relay and that's the fastest split ever."

Marti Penedes placed 10
th in the 1000 freestyle in 9:15.24.

Kristijan Stunkovic placed 37
th in the 200 individual medley at 1:51.96.

OBU ended the day with 79 points and sits in second place behind Queens (NC) at 127. Twenty-three teams scored on the first day.

"We've got a lot of work to do," Freas said. "It's not over yet. We have a chance to do something special tomorrow."
