SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist heads to its final qualifying meet at the Mizzou NCAA Qualifier in Columbia Friday.

OBU is coming off several strong swims at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships – so strong, in fact, that Coach Sam Freas thinks it might have been the best meet the teams have ever had.

"In reflecting on the RMAC Championships, it appears that OBU quite possibly had its greatest swimming and diving meet ever," Freas said.
Â
The Bison and Lady Bison won the most events (19), broke a meet-best nine RMAC records and broke 12 school records. And the teams finished second in men's and third in women's.

"Right now we have 21 qualified for NCAAs with two additional people on the cusp of being invited." Freas said. "Currently, on the DII national (CollegeSwimming.com dual) rankings, the OBU men are ranked third, and the OBU women are ranked 11th in the nation."

Victoria Fonville has an automatic qualifying and top national time in the 50 free and
Tammy Price is seventh.

Price also is ranked sixth in the 50 backstroke.
Celina Marquez is second with an automatic mark in the 100 backstroke while
Suzanne Afchain is ranked sixth and Price seventh in that event. Marquez is third nationally in the 200 back with Afchain ranking 11
th and Price 17
th.

Marizel Van Jaarsveld is No. 10 and
Juliana Cifuentes 15
th in the 100 breaststroke. Cifuentes is 25
th in the 200 breaststroke.
