SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist swimming and diving kicked off their season Friday, hosting the Shawnee Invitational at the Shawnee Splash Water Park.
Â
"The team did well," said Head Coach
Dr. Samuel Freas. "I think for where they were we did well to start the season."
Â
This meet was the only home meet that OBU will host this season. Both teams are scheduled for three intrasquad meets later in the year.
Â
"
David Lambert,
Victoria Fonville and
JP Goyetche all swam very fast in their events," remarked Freas.
Â
The Bison and Lady Bison won multiple swimming events throughout the day and also gave the divers their first opportunity to compete this season. Some dives were not able to be completed due to the three-meter board setup.
Â
"Our divers, without having a working board, did a good job," said Freas. "
Genesis Veliz was very good and
Otto Lehtonen was very good."
Â
Other teams at the meet included Tabor, Barton Community College and Oklahoma Christian made their program debut Friday.
Â
"In think for those teams that it was the first time for them, they did well. I think Oklahoma Christian has a future in swimming," said Freas.
Â
OBU had the fastest swimmer in the pool for the majority of the events at the Shawnee Splash Water Park.
Â
"
Juliana Cifuentes is starting to become a swimmer. She won [multiple events] today," said Freas. "
Fernando Morillas Ramos swam well today, he did a nice job for us."
Â
Due to technical difficulties, results will not be available until Saturday morning.
Â
"We have a great captain group, so we should be very good this season," said Freas. "There's still a lot of work to be done. We have the markings of being a really good team."
