GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – (
Day One Results) Oklahoma Baptist's men's swimming and diving held a narrow lead over Cal Baptist after the first day of its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship.
The OBU men scored 185 points and have a six-point edge on Cal Baptist and a 10-point lead on Colorado Mesa.
The Lady Bison stand in third place with 119 points after the first day.
Vika Peskova was the first women's scorer, finishing 15
th in the 1000 freestyle in 11:02.31.
Juliana Cifuentes placed third in the 200 individual medley in 2:06.15 with Celina Marquez in eighth at 2:08.86,
Miriam Avila Martinez in 11
th at 2:08.61, and
Suzanne Afchain in 15
th at 2:10.74.
Victoria Fonville placed third in the 50 free at 23.37, followed by
Tammy Price in fifth at 23.64 and
Blandine Tantart in 11
th at 24.27.
The Lady Bison added 46 points in the 200 medley relay. Afchain, Avila, Price and Fonville placed second at 1:44.60 and
Faith Moss,
Leslie White,
Grace Anne Clayton and Tantart were 11
th at 1:48.04.
Kristijan Stunkovic was the first Bison to post points, placing 12
th in the 1000 freestyle in 9:51.14.
Jonathan Stewart was 13
th at 10:02.98 and
Drew Dickson was 15
th at 10:08.11. OBU had 11 points in the event.
JP Goyetche grabbed OBU's first-ever conference swimming championship, winning a 1-2-3 Bison finish in the 50 freestyle at 20.00.
Chad Brandon was second at 20.22 and
Marc Sambolin placed third at 20.40.
Devyn Hill was sixth at 20.91, Austin Saunders was 11
th at 20.95,
Daniel Brown was 12
th at 20.93,
Josip Miskovic took 13
th at 21.34 and
Ryan Walker was 14
th at 21.47.
OBU scored 84 points in the 50 free.
Alex Mundt took fifth in the men's 200 IM at 1:52.29, followed by Stunkovic in eighth at 1:53.07 and
Nicolas Brun in 14
th at 1:55.22.
OBU added 58 points in the 200 medley relay with the Goyetche, Brandon, Saunders and Hill taking first at 1:29.38 and Brun, Miskovic,
Felipe Ramirez and Brown getting ninth at 1:31.96.
Otto Lethonen placed second in the three-meter diving at 517.85, followed by
Zak Rowton in fourth at 432.05,
Joseph Iiams in 10
th at 146.70 and Walker in 11
th at 145.05.
Action resumes Thursday morning with prelims for the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle and women's one-meter diving.
