SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist opens Great American Conference action today with a 2 p.m. game against Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
 
The Bison are 4-2 on the season after crushing Dallas Christian Josh Timms slugged his second and third home runs of the season Wednesday and now sports a .960 slugging percentage heading into the first Great American Conference series.
 
Bob English, in his four starts, is hitting .538 with an on-base percentage of .600 and no errors in 21 chances. He leads the team in batting, on-base percentage and errorless chances.
 
The Bison have had eight double plays in six games this season. Last year's NCCAA championship squad had 36 double plays in 58 games. Second baseman Kevin Olmeda has been involved in seven double plays with first baseman Nick Burnham ending four shortstop Dustyn Cook in on four of those.
 
The Bison are 0-2 when the opponent scores in the first inning this season. OBU also is 4-0 this year when leading after the sixth inning and 4-0 when they score five or more runs.
 
With the lone Bison in win the Oklahoma Christian series, Jinny Parra has 32 victories in his career and needs three to tie David Hocking and Darrin Fowler for career wins. Parra's next start is likely in the Ouachita Baptist series.
 
Josh Timms, Zane Gelphman and Dustyn Cook still have season-long six-game hitting streaks. Dating back to last season, Cook has a nine-game hit streak working.
 
OBU has amassed 26 multi-hit games among its batters through six games. Josh Timms has five multi-hit games among the six played so far.
 
Ouachita Baptist is 2-6 this season with a 4.88 earned run average and a .251 batting average.
