SEARCY, Ark – Oklahoma Baptist starts its second trip through the Great American Conference football landscape Saturday night at Harding with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
Â
The Bison and Bisons battled to a 20-19 overtime contest last season with Harding escaping with the win. HU is at home this time around and starting the final season for head coach Ronnie Huckeba. Current defensive coordinator Paul Simmons takes the helm next year.
Â
Harding has much talent returning with preseason All-Americans in fullback Michael Latu and offensive tackle Eric Mitchell. The Bisons were the No. 2 rushing offense in NCAA Division II last season.
Â
OBU returns Dez Stegall at quarterback and the junior will be making his homecoming to Searcy. He was an All-State selection at Searcy High with 5500 yards passing and 2400 yards rushing over his career.
Â
The Bison have
Dawson Myers back this season at running back. Myers missed last season with an injury after ripping off 15 touchdowns in 2014 for the Bison in their final NAIA season.
Â
Sophomore
Cagney Roberson heads a talented group of receivers while senior tackles
Zach Clark anchors a veteran offensive line.
Â
Defensively, senior
Gage Wimer heads up an experience defensive line with
Brynden Pitzer and
Levi Jennings leading the linebackers.
D'Ante Meeking, who has led OBU twice in interceptions, returns for his senior season, as does corner
Charles Taylor III.
Â
The game can be heard on the Bison Radio Network on AM-1450 KGFF in Shawnee, at El Patron 98.5 FM in Oklahoma City and in Tulsa on Chrome FM 93.5. The audio also is available at obubisonlive.com and on the iHeart radio app.
