Oklahoma Baptist took fifth in its men's NCAA cross country debut Saturday at the Central Oklahoma Land Run, despite missing a few key athletes.
Oklahoma City won the meet with 29 points, followed by Oklahoma Christian at 68, East Central at 74, Dallas Baptist at 90 and OBU at 113 in the 10-team field.
Track national champion Clay Shepperson led the team in 18th place at 21:18.51 in the eight-kilometer course. Jacob Janzen was 21st at 21:30.61, Ayoub Akil was 24th at 21:36.56, Malique Lytle was 28th at 21:48.97 and Jordan Masterson rounded out the scoring in 33rd place with a 5:29.74.
Blaine Whitson was 34th at 22:00.12 and Tommy Uglean captured 52nd at 22:35.85.
Also for OBU, Zach Polley was 59th at 22:53.95, Nathan Crowson was 60th at 22:55.13, Nathan Reed was 71st at 23:14.05 and Jamie Asjhford was 90th at 24:15.98.
The Bison return to action in two weeks in Joplin, Missouri, at the Missouri Southern First to the Finish.
