Volleyball Heads to Florida, Looks to Stay Perfect

SHAWNEE – Fresh off back-to-back wins over ranked opponents, Oklahoma Baptist volleyball heads to Florida this weekend for four matches. The Bison (5-0) will play at Florida Southern on Thursday, Sept. 3 before making their way to Tampa for three matches at the Tampa Volleyball Classic.

OBU will take on #17 Missouri-St. Louis and #4 Tampa on Friday, Sept. 4, before closing out the trip against Francis Marion on Saturday. Sept. 5.

The matches this weekend mark the first-ever meetings between OBU and its opponents. The Bison are 7-11 all-time against teams from Florida, 26-18-2 against schools from Missouri, and 2-0 against schools from South Carolina.

Despite going 4-0 on opening weekend and toppling then #19 West Texas A&M, the Bison did not crack the AVCA/Taraflex Top 25, instead moving to the top of the "receiving votes" category.

OBU has a chance to make a huge statement this week if it can pick up wins over #4 Tampa and #17 UMSL.  If that happens, it would give the Bison four ranked wins in the first nine matches of the season, with four coming in just a five-match stretch.

In its five wins, OBU is holding opposing offenses to just a .135 hitting percentage. That includes a mark of just .088 in the wins over #15 Central Oklahoma and then #19 West Texas A&M.

The Bison have also been incredible at the service line this year, with 30 total aces, 13 of which have come in the last two matches.
