SHAWNEE – After a 4-0 opening weekend, Oklahoma Baptist volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 1 when it hosts Central Oklahoma inside the Noble Complex. First serve is set for 6 p.m. as the Bison are looking to remain perfect and snap a five-match losing streak to the Bronchos.
RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND
- Oklahoma Baptist could not have asked for a better start to the season, going 4-0 at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic last weekend at West Texas A&M.
- The Bison picked up victories over Tuskegee (3-0), Adams State (3-1), Wisconsin-Parkside (3-2), and #19 West Texas A&M (3-1).
- OBU overcame a 24-19 deficit in the fourth set against Parkside, scoring seven-straight points to win the set and push the match to a fifth set, which the Bison won 17-15.
- The victory over WTAMU was OBU's first over a ranked opponent since defeating then #15 Northwest Missouri State on Sept. 9, 2023.
- OBU's 4-0 start is its best since the 2020 season, when the team went 18-0 (season was played in the spring of 2021 due to COVID-19).
- It is also the second-best start of the Division II era and the second-best start since the program was revived in 2008.
- With three neutral-site wins over the weekend, the Bison have now won 13-straight neutral-site contests.
OBU VS. UCO
- Oklahoma Baptist is 16-17 all-time against Central Oklahoma, but has lost five in a row to the Bronchos.
- OBU's last win in the series came in a 3-1 road victory on Sept. 11, 2019.
- Central Oklahoma picked up a 3-0 win when the teams met in Edmond last year (9/9/25).
- Rylee Unruh had a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs in the match.
SCOUTING THE BRONCHOS
- Central Oklahoma enters Tuesday's matchup with a 3-1 record after defeating Southern Arkansas, Arkansas-Monticello and Texas A&M-Kingsville during the Mulerider Volleyball Tournament. The Bronchos' lone defeat came in four sets against UT Tyler.
- UCO features a balanced offensive attack. Four Bronchos reached double figures in kills against both UT Tyler and Texas A&M-Kingsville, with Caroline Clayton, Georgia Ahlert, Myla Unterweger, Kate Wells, Brylee Moore and Taylor Fenton each producing at least one double-digit performance over opening weekend
RECORD WATCH
- Emily Boyer is poised to become OBU's career record holder for aces. She already holds the single-season record with 55 a year ago, and needs 14 more to become the school's all-time leader in aces.
- She is also set to become just the second player in program history with 3,000 or more assists in a career. Boyer currently sits in second with 2,448 assists after moving into the number two spot last weekend. She is 512 assists shy of 3,000.
- Rylee Unruh can also move up the rankings in career aces. She is currently tied for seventh with 85 aces. Unruh recorded 10 aces over the weekend, with multiple aces in three of four matches.
- In addition, Unruh is poised to hit the 1,000/1,000 club for her career. She currently has 911 kills and 988 digs in her career. 709 of those kills and 750 of her digs have come at OBU after she transferred from Washburn.
- Head coach Anna Howle is closing in on 450 career victories. She needs just 13 more to hit that mark.
