TULSA – Oklahoma Baptist women's golfer
Morgan Simmons posted the lowest round total in school history (-3; 68) during the Northeastern State University Golf Classic. By tournament's end, the senior from Memphis, Tenn., won the individual title and led the Bison to a fourth-place team finish.
On Monday, Simmons' record-setting day including seven birdies and six more pars. That helped her shoot a three-under 68. That bested a 2023 performance from former player Morgan Becker who shot back-to-back, two-under 70s at the Newman Invitational on Apr. 3-4, 2023.
Furthermore, Simmons was flirting with the greatest two-round effort on Tuesday, sitting at five-under through seven holes. However, she ended up shooting three-over down the stretch. That said, she finished in first place overall, her first individual title.
As for Simmons' teammates, sophomore
Priscilla Gant ended the tournament in a tie for 11th place, her second-best finish of her young career. Gant fired a five-over 76 on Monday before shaving two strokes on Tuesday to finish at plus-three (74). She pared 12 of the final 18 holes in the second round.
Rounding out OBU's top finishers was
Adriana Torres Digon. The freshman shot five-over (76) on both days to earn a tie for 15th place.
Finalizing the team scoring was
Emilee Pierce – who claimed a tie for 45th – and
Ines Diaz who followed a few spots later (51st). Two individuals also competed for the green and gold: freshman
Colbie Moses and sophomore
Paisley Eason.
The Bison have a couple of weeks off before their next tournament. That comes Oct. 5-6 during UCO's Grace Shin Invite at Kickingbird Golf Club.
