DURANT, Okla. — Oklahoma Baptist opened its GAC series at Southeastern Oklahoma State with a 10–8 victory on Friday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field, using a fast start and a pivotal four‑run fourth inning to secure its 16th win of the season.
The Bison wasted no time grabbing momentum.
Matt Marsic set the tone immediately with a leadoff homer to left, and
Tui Amosa followed two batters later with a solo shot of his own as OBU jumped ahead 2–0 in the top of the first. Southeastern responded with a two‑run blast from Carter Olson to even the score, but the visitors continued to apply pressure in the early frames.
In the second,
Braden Smith,
Isaac Hill, and
Ben Green ignited a three‑run surge as Green delivered an RBI single and
Quinn Johnson added another run‑scoring hit. Amosa then drove in an additional run on a fielder's choice to stretch the Bison lead to 5–2. OBU's offense kept clicking in the fourth when
Lucas Schaefer launched a three‑run homer to left, capping a four‑run inning that pushed the margin to 9–3.
Southeastern's Alex Showalter answered with a solo homer in the bottom half, but
Logan Wade settled things on the mound with four innings of steady relief.
Isaac Hill and
Ben Green opened the seventh with back‑to‑back singles before Johnson added his second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 10–4.
The Savage Storm mounted a final push in the ninth, highlighted by a three‑run homer from Tyler Payton that trimmed the deficit to 10–7. A defensive miscue allowed another run to score, bringing the tying run to the plate, but
Grayson Connell entered and induced a flyout to center to lock down his first save of the season.
Johnson led OBU with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in two and scoring once. Amosa added two hits, two RBI, and a home run, while Schaefer recorded a game‑high three RBI. Green, Smith, Hill, and
Keenan Morris each contributed key hits in a 13‑hit afternoon for the Bison.
On the mound, Wade earned the win after striking out four and allowing three runs across four innings of work.
Marcus Peters and
Luis Pezzotti combined before Connell closed the door in the ninth.
The win moves Oklahoma Baptist to 16–13 (9–10 GAC) on the year. The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader in Durant.
