Oklahoma Baptist, Henderson State Set for Weekend Series

SHAWNEE – Fourteenth-ranked (NFCA) Oklahoma Baptist (22-3, 9-0 GAC) welcomes Henderson State (9-13, 3-6 GAC) to Regent Bank Park on March 13-14 for a three-game GAC series.

Game one comes Friday at 6 p.m. before a noon doubleheader on Saturday. OBU leads the series 20-15 and has won 13 of the last 14 games versus the Reddies. A live video feed (no commentary) and live stats will be available for the games.

Here are notes on the squads.

For the Bison:
OBU split its last doubleheader with Cameron, winning 11-9 and falling 20-8 on March 11. The game-two loss snapped the Bison's 11-game winning streak.

Of note, the 20 runs the Aggies scored in game two marked just the second time since 2000 that an opponent scored that many runs. Previously, UCO scored 20 on March 3, 2007.

Greenlee Wells notched another home run versus Cameron, her 15th of the season. She's three away from tying Ally Ryan's single-season record of 18 set in 2024. Wells also has 49 RBI, which is just nine away from the school record held by Annie Combs (58; 2014).

For Ryan, her 121 career RBI are tied for seventh in school history and are 36 away from Kaley Dickerson's (2007-10) program record 157.

Sophomore Kaley Cook is up to 65 career stolen bases after she notched a few against Cameron. Those rank third all-time.

Jaycee Shaffer, who threw an incredible 185 pitches in game one against Cameron, cracked the OBU top-10 career list in wins. She's got 35 after moving past Hannah Wilbur (2013-14; 34). Plus, with 11 more strikeouts, Shaffer will become just the ninth Bison pitcher to reach 300 for a career.

Here's how the Bison rank in the GAC heading into the weekend:
First in homers (36); Second in batting (.340), hits (226) and RBI (169); First with 173 strikeouts and third in team ERA (3.23).

For the Reddies:
HSU has lost seven straight coming into the weekend. Four of those defeats have come by no more than two runs.

The last time the Reddies won a series at OBU was in April of 2016.

Henderson has done well offensively through 22 games. They rank fourth in the GAC in batting average (.294). They also have performed in the circle, ranking second in team ERA at 2.73.

Plus, HSU's staff has only walked 14 batters in 135.2 innings pitched.

Josie Copeland has the fourth-best batting average in the GAC at .449. She also leads with 11 doubles. Teammate Hilary Akers also has the most triples in the conference with three.

Furthermore offensively, Penelope Foote has the second-most sacrifice bunts in the GAC (5).

In the circle, Presley Applegate leads the staff with a 1.81 earned run average. That's good for third in the league. Jersey Cabana has fared well too, notching a 2.29 ERA. That mark is slotted seventh.
