Bison Baseball Set to Host Southwestern

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (5-8, 1-5 GAC) will look to get some traction in Great American Conference play when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State (10-7, 2-4 GAC) this coming weekend at Bobby Cox Field.

Game one comes Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. before a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 28. Historically, SWOSU leads the all-time series 20-10 but they haven't won a three-game conference series since 2022.

Todd Miller will be on the call for games one and two on the Bison Sports Network. Here are notes on the two squads.

For the Bison:
OBU is coming off a dominant 22-10 win at Northeastern State on Feb. 24.

In that game, the team scored a season-high 22 runs, drove in 21 RBI, smacked seven homers and watched as Lucas Schaefer had a three-homer performance.

Newcomer Quinn Johnson continues to be a potent offensive force. He's No. 15 in the country with eight doubles and 27th in total bases (44). Johnson's batting average of .510 is also third in the GAC.

Outfielder Tui Amosa is another big hitter. He's got four homers, a team-high 16 RBI and is hitting .400. He's also got three sacrifice flies, eighth-most in the nation.

On the mound, OBU is led by Kody Bialas. His 25 strikeouts are No. 21 in the nation and second in the conference. He also strikes out 10.07 batters per nine innings, fifth-best in the GAC.

Lucas Hernandez is first in the league in walks per game (1.10) while Logan Wade's two saves are slotted 12th in D2. As a staff, OBU leads the GAC in strikeouts per nine (9.7).

For the Bulldogs:
SWOSU is coming off a 28-14 win at SNU on Feb. 24.

They lead the GAC in batting average (.363), hits (206), runs scored (175) and triples (7). Southwestern has scored at least 10 runs in seven games so far.

Pitching-wise, SWOSU has a team ERA of 7.01 which ranks seventh in the league.

Individually, Landon Meyer has the fifth-best (GAC) batting average at .471 while Nolan McCrossin and Kotaro Wakui's seven doubles each are No. 15 nationally.

Also of note, Meyer leads the nation with 32 hits and is fourth with 26 runs scored.

Drew Fifer leads the SWOSU pitching staff. He's got a 4.08 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 10 walks. In four appearances, he's allowed opponents to hit .231.

Will David and Jared Adams are other starting pitchers for the Bulldogs. They've combined for 31 strikeouts and 18 walks over 37.1 innings.
