Bison to Host Southern Arkansas

SHAWNEE – The Great American Conference season begins on Feb. 15 when Oklahoma Baptist (2-3) hosts Southern Arkansas (3-4) for a three-game series at Bobby Cox Field.

On Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. following by a single game on Monday at noon.

SAU leads the all-time series 21-11. Todd Miller will have the call of the games on Sunday while Dave Myrick will announce on Monday. Below are notes on both teams.

For the Bison:
OBU's pitching so far has been solid. The staff ranks 39th in D2 in ERA (5.04), hits allowed per nine innings (8.66) and is No. 22 in strikeouts per nine innings (10.3).

Four pitchers – Landon Gutierrez, Logan Wade, Teagon Standlee and Lucas Hernandez – have pitched 17.0 frames and not allowed an earned run.

Starter Kody Bialas has a 2.38 ERA and ranks ninth in America with 16 strikeouts. Plus, he's only walked three batters in 11.1 innings pitched.

Offensively, newcomer Quinn Johnson has the GAC's seventh-best batting average at .444. He's collected multiple hits in three of the first five contests.

Tui Amosa is off to a good start too. He's fifth in the nation with a pair of sacrifice flies and No. 50 with a pair of homers.

Lastly, Johnson, Alex Sanchez and Ben Green each have recorded two doubles. Green also leads the team with three stolen bags.

For the Muleriders:
SAU's home-run hitting ability has been evident so far. The Muleriders rank No. 25 with eight bombs.

They've also added four sacrifice flies. That's slotted 32nd in Division II.

On the defensive front, SAU boasts a .974 fielding percentage. That's tops in the GAC and 28th in the nation.

Individually, Wyatt Fielding is off to a great start in 2026. He's got two doubles, a pair of homers and has a top-50 NCAA slugging percentage (.957). Fielding is also slotted 31st with 22 total bases and is batting .435.

After Fielding, no SAU player is hitting above .300. The next closest is Michael Herndon who owns a .296 average with a team-best nine RBI.

Pitching wise, four different Muleriders have tossed at least 7.2 innings. Wes Cunningham has the best ERA (3.52) while Eli Hutcherson has struck out a staff-high 11.

Nate June (4.15 ERA/ 8 Ks) and Easton Hurley (7.71 ERA/ 3 Ks) are the other pair of SAU hurlers that have made starts early on.
