SHAWNEE – With about three weeks remaining in the regular season, Oklahoma Baptist (2-8, 1-4 GAC) needs to start stringing together victories if it hopes to make the Great American Conference Tournament during the first week of November.
That process starts this week with a home match against Northwestern on Oct. 7 and trip to Southern Nazarene on Oct. 10. With seven GAC contests left, OBU is in sixth place with three points and trails NWOSU, the current fourth-place squad, who has nine.
Earlier this year, the Rangers defeated OBU 2-0 on Sept. 19 in Alva. As for the contest with SNU, it's the first meeting this fall. Below are notes on the three teams.
For the Bison:
OBU snapped a five-match losing streak after its 2-0 win over East Central last Tuesday.
Addison Gray scored on an assist from
Hali White in the first half while newcomer
Joana Gomez tallied the other late in the second.
Gray is tied for the team lead with
Hope White and
Camden Ocheskey with two goals apiece. Also, Gray averages 1.90 shots per game which ranks 10th in the GAC.
Freshman goalie
Emilia Gallego earned her first career shutout against ECU. She also collected three saves in last week's win.
As a team, OBU ranks second in the GAC with 6.1 saves per match.
For the Rangers:
Northwestern lost its first-place hold in the GAC with a pair of 1-0 defeats at Ouachita and Harding last week. They are currently 7-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
That marked the first time this fall that NWOSU had not scored in consecutive matches.
Cambell Tabor is one of the top scorers in the GAC. She's got four, which are two off the league lead. Her three game-winners are also tied atop the conference leaderboard.
In net is goalie Taylor Annen. She's first in the conference with a 0.50 goals against average and shutouts (5).
For the Crimson Storm:
SNU is unbeaten in its last four matches (3-0-1) after a 2-0 win against East Central this past Saturday.
The Storm are 4-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the GAC. Their 10 points slot them third in the standings.
Danika Womack and Darby Boehler have combined to score seven of the team's 11 goals with Womack leading with four.
Madaline Bullard has the third-highest save percentage in the GAC at .792. She also is slotted the same with 5.70 saves per contest.
