SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer team will host Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
OBU enters with an 0-4-3 record, including an 0-1 GAC mark, while the Bulldogs come to Shawnee sitting at 5-2 and 1-0 in league play. Earlier this week, the Bison fell 2-1 to Northwestern while SWOSU defeated Southern Nazarene by the same score.
This is one of the most competitive series within the GAC. There have been 25 matchups between OBU and SWOSU since 2015. The Bison have 10 wins; the Bulldogs have 11 and there have been four ties.
Recently, the green and gold have won the last three contests; that's only been done once before when the program won four straight over SWOSU between Oct. 6, 2018, and Nov. 3, 2018. Below are notes on both squads.
Bison Notes
- OBU fell at home to Northwestern on Sept. 24 by a 2-1 count.
- The Bison tallied a season-high 22 shots with seven on goal.
- Lex Williamson provided the goal for OBU, her second of the year. That's a team-high and ranks tied for fifth in the GAC.
- Freshman Addison Gray registered the assist on that goal. It was her first career point.
- Through seven matches, OBU's 2.29 points per game ranks sixth of seven GAC schools.
- Defensively, the Bison rank sixth, giving up 2.71 goals per contest, and seventh in saves (3.29 p/g).
- In last season's home match with SWOSU, the Bison broke a 2-2 tie with about four minutes left when Sam Sheffield assisted Hali White for the game-winning goal.
Bulldogs Notes
- SWOSU's offense has stuck out early this season. They are top-two in the GAC in shots (14.5 p/g); points (5.25 p/g), goals (2.0 p/g) and assists (1.25 p/g).
- Of note, the Bulldogs and Bison have a common opponent: Missouri Southern. SWOSU scored five goals versus the Lions on Sept. 14 while OBU tallied one (9/17).
- Braelee Epp and Saoirse Hourigan rank fourth and fifth in the conference in shots on goal per game; 1.75 and 1.50, respectively.
- Hourigan is also fourth in the league with three goals scored.
- Philippine de Sancy is one of six GAC players with at least two assists.
- SWOSU is led in goal by Emma Young. She ranks second in goals against average (1.00), save percentage (.857) and shutouts (2).
