Gray, Bison Win on Senior Night over SNU

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer team had its best effort of the season on Saturday, winning 2-1 over Southern Nazarene in a Great American Conference match at the OBU Soccer Complex.

Prior to the match, seniors Hali White, Ajae Belliston and Marisol Gomez were recognized.

The Bison struck early and received a career performance from Addison Gray, who scored both Oklahoma Baptist goals in the first half to secure the victory.

OBU wasted little time getting on the board, finding the net in the sixth minute. Ryann Phillips lined up a free kick from just inside the midfield line and delivered the assist to Gray, who converted from the left side. That gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Southern Nazarene responded just over five minutes later when Darby Boehler scored off an assist from Emma Pingree, leveling the match at 1-1 in the 11th minute.

The Bison reclaimed the lead midway through the opening stanza and never looked back. In the 24th minute, White found Gray on the right side of the 18-yard box and the sophomore lifted a shot into the left corner. Her second goal of the day pushed the OBU advantage to 2-1.

Neither side scored in the final 66 minutes despite a strong push from the Crimson Storm. Southern Nazarene finished with a 22-14 edge in shots and earned all eight corner kicks in the contest, but the Bison back line held firm.

Goalkeeper Emilia Gallego turned in a standout effort between the posts, recording six saves to preserve the victory. OBU also received key defensive contributions as the Crimson Storm placed nine shots on goal throughout the match. Two of those shots were stopped by OBU defenders.

Gray paced the Bison attack with seven shots and five shots on goal to go along with her two scores. The victory moves Oklahoma Baptist to 3-12-1 overall and 2-8-1 in GAC play. The green and gold will close their season on Monday, Nov. 2 with a 3 p.m. home match against Ouachita.
