ARCATA, Calif. — Oklahoma Baptist controlled the net from start to finish, sweeping Dominican (CA) 25-14, 25-13, 25-21 on Friday at Lumberjack Arena. The Bison improved to 5-2 on the season with the victory.
The Bison attack was fairly sharp, finishing with a .267 hitting percentage compared to Dominican's .059. Junior
Allie Stricker led the charge with 11 kills on .417 hitting, while
Rylee Unruh added nine kills and two aces for an 11-point performance.
Mackenzie Frazee was also efficient in the middle, tallying four kills on a .500 clip along with five blocks.
Setter
Emily Boyer directed the offense with 17 assists and chipped in a service ace, while freshman
Madi Barnes anchored the defense with 10 digs. Barnes also handed out 11 assists and contributed three aces.
Overall, Oklahoma Baptist recorded 51 digs as a team and spread production across the roster, with 10 players contributing at least one point.
For Dominican, Braenwynne Matthews paced the Penguins with eight kills but struggled against the Bison block, hitting -.023 on 44 attempts. Freshman Kali Young provided a bright spot off the bench, notching five kills on a .444 hitting percentage in limited action. Setter Kiara Milar registered 12 assists and two digs, while libero Kendal Kibanoff led the back row with 15 digs.
The Bison controlled the opening two sets with comfortable margins, hitting .211 and .300, respectively. Dominican found more rhythm in the third, and held a 15-11 lead at one point, however, the Bison reeled off a 6-0 run before prevailing 25-21.
On Saturday, OBU will wrap up the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic with matches against Chico State and Jessup at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. central.
