ARCATA, Calif. – Oklahoma Baptist collected another strong win at the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic, defeating Chico State in four sets on Saturday. With the result, the Bison moved to 6-2 on the season.
The Bison attacked early, hitting .270 in the opening set before grinding out a 25-23 win in the second set. Despite dropping the third, OBU bounced back strong hitting .351 in the fourth to seal the victory. Overall, the Bison hit .264 as a team compared to Chico State's .239.
Rylee Unruh led the attack hitting .400 with 17 kills while also collecting 11 digs.
Allie Stricker added 14 kills and three blocks, while middle hitter
Mackenzie Frazee contributed eight kills.
The setting duo of
Emily Boyer (31 assists, three aces) and
Madi Barnes (23 assists, one ace) kept OBU's offense balanced and in sync.
In the back row, the Bison narrowly edged out the Wildcats 62-59 in digs. Libero
Karsyn Hunter led with 21 digs and freshman
Ada Ingvardsen collected eight.
OBU's offense proved more consistent, finishing with 58 kills and 54 assists compared to Chico State's 50 kills and 43 assists.
After dropping the third set behind Chico's .536 hitting percentage, the Bison regrouped in the fourth, building an early lead and keeping control the rest of the way. Timely kills from Unruh and Stricker, paired with steady defense, secured OBU's sixth win of the year.
