OBU Baseball faces sweep in Alva

ALVA, Okla. – A struggling Bison offense was overtaken by the Rangers, dropping all three games to Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

Oklahoma Baptist Baseball faced a tough NWOSU team, ultimately falling short in all three games.

While the green and gold had some offensive struggles, the Bison totaled five runs on seven hits with four errors. The Rangers finished the day with 10 runs on 11 hits and one error.

Northwestern opened up the day with a solo run coming across in the bottom of the first. The Bison responded with a run in the top of the second to tie things up at one-a-piece. The third stanza went scoreless, but the home team put up another run in the bottom of the fourth. The Rangers continued to pound away, totaling five runs in the fifth. OBU got things moving with four runs in the top of the sixth to make it a two-run game, 7-5 in favor of the home team. The seventh inning saw the Rangers add another pair to the board and the bottom of the eight welcomed another run for NWOSU for a 10-5 total.

Zane Bennett carried the OBU offense with two homers, a solo shot in the second inning and a two-RBI homer in the sixth to account for all three runs for the Bison. 

Matt Marsic, Keenan Morris and Jaxon McAuliff each contributed a double. 

Marcus Peters (L, 3-1) got the start for OBU with 3.2 innings on the bump, giving up two runs (one earned) in two hits, walking five batters and striking out five. 

Javarian Roquemore came in for 1.0 inning and gave up two runs on no hits, walking one and striking out two.

Logan Kimbro went 0.1 inning on the bump, giving up three runs on three hits, walking none and striking out one. 

Jalen Johnston came in next and went 2.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, walking a pair and striking out three.

William Ellis closed things out for the green and gold with 1.0 inning pitched, giving up one earned run on two hits, walking one and striking out none. 

The trio of losses to the Rangers brings the OBU season records to 19-17 overall and 11-13 in conference play. 

Next on the schedule for the Bison is a home series with Harding beginning Friday. The green and gold will host Harding for a 6 p.m. Game 1. Saturday will see a doubleheader on the slate with a 1 p.m. first pitch and the series finale to follow.
