Harding shuts out OBU in Game 1 Friday evening

SHAWNEE – Bison Baseball failed to get the offense going, resulting in a win for Harding in the opening game of the three-game series.

Oklahoma Baptist Baseball faced an uphill battle with the second ranked team in the GAC, Harding. The Bison opened up the series with Harding Friday evening at 6 p.m. and a strong HU offense ultimately overtook OBU, claiming Game 1 in seven innings with an 11-0 final.

Harding was first to strike with a solo run across in the second stanza. The fourth inning welcomed four runs for the visiting team for a 5-0 lead. HU tacked on another pair of runs in the fifth inning and another four runs in the seventh inning. The four innings of scoring led to a big 11-0 final for Harding, proving their GAC rankings accurate.

Lucas Schaefer was one of two Bison to claim a hit with a double in the seventh inning, finishing 1-3 at the plate.

Jesse Tisdell earned the other hit for OBU with a single in the third inning.

The Bison finished the evening with two hits, no runs and three errors.

David Stuart (L, 5-4) took the loss after 5.0 innings on the mound, giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits. Stuart compiled five strikeouts, walking three batters.

Ayden Wood came in as the reliever, totaling 2.0 innings on the bump. Wood totaled one strikeout, one walk and gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits.

The green and gold will be back in action Saturday with a doubleheader on the slate. Prior to the first game of the day, Senior Day will take place, honoring 13 seniors. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the series finale to follow.
