SHAWNEE -- The Southern Arkansas Muleriders travel to Shawnee for a pivotal late-season series against the Oklahoma Baptist Bison. The teams are set to face off in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25, followed by a single game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
SAU, the No. 9 ranked squad by the NFCA, is having a special season. They are 39-6 and an impressive 24-4 away from home. Jason Anderson's team has already clinched the GAC Regular Season title and will be the one seed next week in Bentonville.
For OBU, its 2025 season has been more than solid. The Bison are 32-16, 23-7 in the GAC, and have a home record of 13-2. For
Jace Brewer's squad, they are locked into the two seed for the conference tourney.
Of note, in the recent NCAA Central Region rankings, SAU was slotted two while OBU was not in the top 10. Historically, the top eight usually make the NCAA Tournament.
The Voice of the Bison Todd Miller will be on the call of these games. Below are notes on both teams.
Bison Notes
- OBU fell at Southern Nazarene on April 22 by a 7-6 score.
- Greenlee Wells hit her 15th bomb in that game. Her total is ranked No. 7 nationally, first in the GAC and third-most in OBU single-season history.
- Wells also has 52 RBI, the second-best total in the GAC and a .795 slugging mark. That latter stat is the tops in the GAC and the best percentage in OBU's D2 history.
- In the game at SNU, Sammie Greene surpassed 200 hits and 100 stolen bases in her career. She's the only Bison to reach those minimums in school history.
- Plus, Greene's 100 career stolen bags are five away from tying Mary May's school record of 105 attained between 1991-94.
- Another potential record-breaker could be delivered by Kaley Cook. She has seven triples, tied for the most in school history. Amy Lassetter had seven back in 1984.
- As a team, OBU's 63 homers are a program record and rank seventh in D2. Plus, the Bison are 16th in slugging (.520) and 11th with 116 stolen bags, the most in OBU history.
- Cook (39) and Greene (36) lead in steals. It's the first time in program history that a pair of Bison have at least 30 stolen bags in the same season.
- Senior Morgan Max has drawn 32 walks this year, tied for second-most in OBU history. In 2007, Jayme Boyer attained 36, the current school record.
- In the circle, Max, Jaycee Shaffer and Jorja Barrett will look to slow down SAU, whose .472 slugging mark is second-best in the league.
- Shaffer's 2.43 ERA is sixth in the GAC while Max's seven saves are slotted fourth in D2.
- For Barrett, she's been dependable over her last four appearances. She's 3-0, has struck out 12 over 21 innings and limited opponents to a .253 average.
Muleriders Notes
- SAU is led by Brinson Rogers whose season has been nothing short of sensational.
- She's been awarded GAC Pitcher of the Week 10 times, leads the GAC in ERA (0.82), strikeouts (254), shutouts (18) and has limited opponents to a .140 average. All those stats are top five in the nation, too.
- During the Bison's series win over SAU last year, in 14 innings pitched, Rogers gave up five hits, five runs, walked 13 OBU players and struck out 23.
- Leading SAU offensively is Regan Dillon. She's sixth in the GAC in slugging (.638), and fourth with 39 runs scored and in on-base percentage (.470).
- Dillon also has hit 10 homers, tied for sixth in the league.
- Sophia Stoddard leads the Muleriders with 50 hits. She's had 8- and 9-game hitting streaks during the season.
- As a team, SAU has drawn 152 walks this year, a top-50 NCAA mark and third-most in the GAC.
- Also of significance, on the defensive end, SAU's .975 fielding mark is sixth in the country and first in the conference.
- Pitching-wise, SAU ranks fifth in the nation with 7.50 strikeouts per seven innings and a 3.98 strikeout-to-walk ration.
- Rogers leads all these fronts and is only giving up 3.38 hits per seven frames. That's No. 3 nationally.
