OBU Baseball set to take on Southern Nazarene for final regular season series

SHAWNEE – Bison Baseball will hit the road for a three-game series with the Crimson Storm to close out regular season action.

The green and gold are Bethany bound to close out the final leg of regular season play against Southern Nazarene.

The three-game series will begin Friday with a 2 p.m. first pitch. The second day of action will see a doubleheader beginning at noon with the final to follow. 

Bison Notes
  • The most recent series saw OBU go 0-3 against Arkansas Tech, carrying a five-game losing streak headed into the weekend action. 
  • Bison Baseball is 20-23 overall and 12-18 in conference play, sitting ninth in the league prior to the series with SNU. 
  • In the last weekend of play, the green and gold totaled 13 runs to ATU's 3-run weekend. 
  • Lucas Schaefer continues to lead the Bison in homers (12, fourth in the GAC), total bases (101, 12th in the GAC), and slugging percentage at .682 (fourth in the GAC).
  • DJ Van Atten leads the team with the best batting average (.340), highest on-base percentage (.465) and the most hits (53).
  • David Stuart is one of the standout staff members. The Friday guy for the Bison sits with a 5.85 ERA across 64.2 innings on the mound. Stuart is 5-5 on the season with a 1.67 WHIP. The senior for OBU has given up a total of 49 runs (42 earned) on 76 hits, walking 32 batters and totaling 59 strikeouts (seventh in the GAC). 
  • Bryant Thornton is another big contributor for OBU with a 5.64 ERA across 44.2 innings pitched. Thornton had a 4-4 record on the season, a 1.54 WHIP and a .260 opponent batting average. Thornton has given up 33 runs (28 earned), on 46 hits, walking 23 batters and striking out 42. 
 
Crimson Storm Notes
  • Southern Nazarene is coming into the series with a 13-game losing streak. The Crimson Storm hold a 9-38 overall record and a 3-28 conference mark this season. 
  • The three conference wins for SNU come over Ouachita Baptist, Southeastern and Southern Arkansas. The most recent wins for SNU came on April 1 after a 9-8 win over Oklahoma City University. 
  • The homerun leader for Southern Nazarene is Weston Hicks with eight homers this season. Hicks also leads the team in RBI with 43 this season, totaling a .483 slugging percentage. 
  • Antonio Sabala is another offensive force for the Crimson Storm with a .331 batting average. Sabala also leads the team in total bases (71), doubles (10), hits (50), and runs (45).
  • Christian Garcia appears to be the leading guy for the SNU staff with an 8.57 ERA across 49.1 innings pitched. Garcia holds a 1.86 WHIP and a .338 opponent batting average. Garcia has totaled a 2-7 record on the season, giving up 53 runs (47 earned) on 69 hits while walking 23 batters and striking out 40.
