Simmons Earns All-GAC Recognition

SHAWNEEOklahoma Baptist sophomore Morgan Simmons was voted on to the All-Great American Conference Women's Golf Team on Sunday as the league announced its end-of-year awards ahead of the conference championship meet.

The native of Memphis, Tenn., led the green and gold with a half-dozen top-30 finishes and scoring average of 77.7.

Among the sophomore's highlights, she finished 18th out of 107 participants during the Northeastern State University Classic on Sept. 9-10 before earning a seventh-place mark at OBU's Fall Invitational at the Shawnee Country Club a couple weeks later.

Fast forward to the spring, Simmons posted a top-25 finish at the Emerald Coast Collegiate before closing the regular season strong at the Spring Regional Preview at Monkey Island, Okla.

During that last tournament on April 7-8, in a field with several ranked Division II teams, Simmons checked in at No. 19 after shooting a four-over par 148.

On top of the athletic achievement for Simmons, Rylie Spaulding and Sam Lehr were named GAC Elite Scholar Athletes. For Spaulding, it marks the second straight year she's earned an academic honor from the GAC. Last season, the Wagoner, Okla., native was a Distinguished Scholar Athlete.  Furthermore, Gimena Errecart earned status on the GAC Academic Honor Roll.
