AZUSA, Calif. – Oklahoma Baptist's 4x400 relay team of
Valerie Olson,
Asia Foster,
Mary McKey and
Delaney Riekert posted one of the best performances of the year in Division II as the three-day Bryan Clay Invitational wrapped up on Friday evening.
While at Azusa Pacific University in California, OBU's 4x400 team took runner-up honors with an NCAA qualifying time of 3:38.22. That currently stands as the No. 2 performance in the country.
The Bison had a couple other NCAA provisional times. Olson earned that as well as a personal-best time in 100 hurdles. The graduate student finished in seventh place with a time of 14.03. Olson also PR'd in the 800 (2:13.23).
Foster earned another provisional time for the Bison in the 400. The Barbados native crossed the finish line in 54.82 which also slotted her in eighth place.
The last of OBU's NCAA qualifying times came from
Sophia Strange and
Kimberly McKinney. During the 5,000, Strange PR'd and placed 12th overall with a time of 16:43.44. The senior also earned a personal-best time in the 1,500 (4:39.35).
For McKinney, she completed the 800 in 19th place with a PR and NCAA standard of 2:11.47.
Also of note,
Kaylen King PR'd in the 800 (2:12.85) and 1500 (4:40.46) while
Zoee Weaver PR'd in the 800 (2:13.23) as well.
OBU also sent a handful of student-athletes to the Pitt State Tune-Up with the regular season nearing its end.
Standout
Anisha Henderson earned top honors in the long jump. She reached 6.15 meters, a NCAA qualifying standard and personal-best, and currently a top-ten mark nationally.
In field events,
Altyn Bartley took fifth place in the shot put, heaving a personal-best 13.95m. That, too, met NCAA standards, and was the 24th-best performance this outdoor season.
The Bison also got numerous PRs from a few others.
Kyndall Hicks won the 400 hurdles with a top time of 1:04.84 and she then PR'd in the 100 hurdles (14.50). Teammate
Bella Driver also earned a personal-best mark in the 400 hurdles (1:06.45).
Furthermore,
Zoe Strange (800; 2:28.17),
Jade Robinson (1,500; 5:01.05),
Jacey Hammon (High Jump; 1.62m) and
Lauren Olson (Discus; 39.87m) all earned personal-best marks.
Currently, the next event for the Bison is Arkansas' John McDonnell Invite set for April 25 in Fayetteville.
