Bison Baseball falls to Wonder Boys in Game 1 of weekend action

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – OBU Baseball failed to get the offense in motion against Arkansas Tech in the first of three weekend games.

Oklahoma Baptist Baseball struggled offensively against the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech, falling to the host in the opening game of the series.

A huge seven-run eighth inning from ATU buried the Bison and finalized a Wonder Boy win in eight innings with a 13-3 final.

OBU got on the board early with a solo run coming across in the form of a Lucas Schaefer homerun to start things off. The home team put up two to regain the lead. Oklahoma Baptist responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second to momentarily lead ATU, 3-2. The bottom of the second saw the Wonder Boys take back the lead with a solo run across. In the bottom of the third, ATU tacked on another run for a 5-3 lead. The fourth went scoreless but the host got back to work, adding another couple runs in the bottom of the fifth. The sixth and seventh were silent but the bottom of the eighth brewed up a big inning for ATU with seven runs to close out the night at 13-3.

Schaefer headed the offense for OBU with a homer in the first, finishing the night 1-3 at the plate with two RBI.

DJ Van Atten and Austin Gonzales contributed doubles for the Bison. Van Atten finished 1-3 at the plate and Gonzales went 2-3 to lead the team in hits for the evening.
