Bison Baseball overtaken by ECU offense in midweek meeting Tuesday evening

SHAWNEE – OBU Baseball faced a relentless East Central offense as a late Tiger comeback subdues the Bison.

Oklahoma Baptist Baseball had a tough go in Ford Park Tuesday evening after the ECU Tigers found some fight late in the game to overtake the green and gold with an 11-4 final to leave the Bison with an even 20-20 overall record.

East Central was first on the board with a leadoff homer to get things in motion for the ECU offense. OBU struck in the second stanza with a single run coming across to even the score. The third inning went scoreless but the bottom of the fourth saw the green and gold tally a couple of runs to take the lead. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Tigers got back to work with a three-run inning in the top of the sixth. The Bison tallied one run in the bottom of the frame for an even 4-4 score. The seventh inning saw another five runs across for ECU and the top of the ninth gave the visitors two more for an 11-4 final.

Lucas Schaefer was the offensive leader for the Bison with a homerun and a double, finishing the day 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. 

The green and gold totaled four runs on nine hits with no errors. 

Matt Marsic had a couple of hits for OBU, finishing 2-4 at the plate with one run scored. 

DJ Van Atten, Keenan Morris, Spencer Dickinson and Zane Bennett also added hits for the Bison to contribute to the total of nine this for the green and gold. 

Ayden Wood got the start for OBU with 3.0 innings on the mound, giving up one earned run on one hit, walking none and striking out two. 

David Piers went 3.0 innings on the bump as well, giving up three earned hits on four runs and striking out a pair.

Tyler Biggs (L, 0-1) took the loss after 0.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on no hits, walking one and striking out none. 

Jalen Johnston went 1.0 inning on the mound giving up two runs on three hits, striking out two. 

William Ellis totaled 1.0 inning, giving up no runs on no hits, walking one and striking out two. 

Javarian Roquemore went 1.0 inning totaling two earned runs on one hit, walking two and striking out one. 

Next up for OBU is a road series in Russellville, Arkansas. The Bison will take on Arkansas Tech on Thursday at 6 p.m. Friday will see a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and the series finale to follow.
