SHAWNEE – The visiting Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm earned a pair of wins over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park. SE won 10-9 before a 10-6 triumph in game two.
GAME ONE
OBU initiated the scoring in the first frame, tallying three runs including a two-run homer by
Spencer Dickinson.
Southeastern responded in the second with two runs, narrowing the gap. The Bison then extended their lead by adding two runs in the second and one in the third, the latter via a
Lucas Schaefer homer. That knock to left field brought the score to 6-2.
Southeastern countered in the fifth frame with a trio of runs, which included a two-run double by Carter Olson. That tightened the contest to 6-5.
Oklahoma Baptist managed a single run in the sixth, but Southeastern's offense surged after that. In fact, the visitors got a three-run homer by Olson to right center which gave the Savage Storm a 10-7 advantage. The Bison attempted a comeback in the ninth, scoring two runs, but fell just short.
Both teams showcased balanced hitting performances, each recording 10 hits.
GAME TWO
Oklahoma Baptist (19-12) started strong, scoring three runs in the first and adding two more in the second, leading 5-2 after two.
Keenan Morris highlighted those efforts with a two-run homer and two-run two-bagger.
OBU extended its lead to 6-2 in the third when catcher
Braden Smith singled home Schaefer. However, Southeastern Oklahoma State (11-21) responded.
The Savage Storm scored two in the fourth on a Payton Poole two-run bomb before a Wesley Mitchell solo shot in the fifth. At that point, OBU led 6-5.
Then in the sixth, SE really got ahold of Bison pitching.
Brady Evans rocked a three-run bomb to left, pushing the visitors ahead 8-6. That was followed up by a Mitchell solo shot and RBI double from Olson.
Heading to the bottom of the sixth, Southeastern led 10-6 and it held that lead down the stretch.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is a non-conference matchup at East Central on April 1 at 2 p.m.
