ADA, Okla. – Bison Baseball fell short offensively to the Tigers as a late ECU run outdid the green and gold efforts.
Oklahoma Baptist Baseball was overtaken by the East Central offense in the bottom of the eighth with a big five-run inning to subdue the offensive efforts for OBU, closing out the midweek with a 9-6 final in favor of the home team.
The Tigers were first to strike with a couple of runs in the bottom of the opening stanza. OBU got on the board with a single run coming across in the top of the second. The third and fourth ended scoreless across the board but the Bison got back to work in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. ECU put up a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie things up a three-a-piece.
With no runs scored in the sixth, the green and gold added another couple of runs in the top of the seventh and the Tigers tacked on one to close out the inning. With a 5-5 total, the bottom of the eighth saw the home team come alive with five runs to bury the Bison offense with a late burst of energy. The top of the ninth saw the green and gold scrounge up the last run, closing out the game with a 9-6 final for ECU.
Oklahoma Baptist totaled six runs on eight hits with two errors.
Jayden Shafer and
Braden Smith led the offensive efforts for OBU with two RBI a-piece, each batting .500 with Shafer going 2-4 at the plate and Smith finishing 1-2 on the evening.
Spencer Dickinson and
Keenan Morris each had one RBI, as Dickinson finished 1-3 at the plate and Morris 1-4.
Jalen Johnston (L, 2-1) took the loss after 1.0 innings on the bump, giving up five earned runs on five hits, walking one and striking out one.
Ryan Turbeville got the start for OBU with 2.0 inning on the mound, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits, walking one and striking out one.
Javarian Roquemore went 2.0 innings, giving up no runs on two hits, walking none and striking out three.
Ayden Wood gave up one earned run on two hits in 1.0 inning pitched, with one strikeout.
William Ellis totaled 2.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits with no walks and one strikeout.
Next up for the Bison is a three-game series in Alva with Northwestern Oklahoma State beginning Friday. A 6 p.m. first pitch will open up the weekend action on Friday and a doubleheader will follow Saturday. Day two of action begins at 1 p.m. with the series finale to follow.
