OBU Baseball hosts Southeastern Oklahoma State for weekend action in Ford Park

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist Baseball is set to host a trio of games against the Savage Storm beginning Friday evening.

Bison Baseball will go head-to-head with the Savage Storm for a three-game series in Bison territory. Game 1 will begin Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday will see a doubleheader with a 1 p.m. first pitch for the final two games of the series.

Bison Notes
  • After a midweek win at home, OBU is 18-11 overall with a 10-8 conference mark. Tuesday night's action saw the green and gold take on Northeastern State University, ending in a 6-5 win for the Bison in extra innings.
  • In the last weekend series, Oklahoma Baptist had a tough go in Ouachita with a 1-2 final in the series. Game 1 ended in a 0-1 loss for the Bison and the same fate followed in Game 2 with the Tigers taking a 4-3 victory over the green and gold to secure the series. In the final game of the series, the Bison offense unleashed with a big 21-9 win to resist the road sweep.
  • Prior to the weekend's action, the Bison and the Savage Storm met at the end of February. SE hosted OBU but the Bison had a big 17-7 total in seven innings after a massive eight homerun game, falling one homer short of the school record in a single game.
  • In the most recent game for OBU, Zane Bennett tallied his seventh homerun of the season. With three RBI on the night, Bennett finished 2-5 at the plate with one run scored. Javarian Roquemore secured his first win from the mound for a 1-0 record. Roquemore went 2.0 innings, giving up no runs, no hits, and no walks with no strikeouts. 
  • Lucas Schaefer is second in the league in slugging percentage (.708,) RBI (36), tied for fourth in homeruns (8), and eighth in total bases (68). DJ Van Atten is sixth in batting average (.380), eight in slugging percentage (.640), fifth in on-base percentage (.500), tied for fourth in doubles (11), tied for eighth in hits (38), and 10th in total bases (64). Alongside Schaefer, Bennett and Braden Smith rank amongst the top competitors in the conference in homeruns at sixth, in a tie for eighth place, seeing OBU with the most representation in the category. 
  • Bryant Thornton ranks 10th in the league in best ERA at 3.89 with David Stuart right behind him in 11th at 4.09. Stuart is ninth in the GAC in batters struck out at 41 while Thornton is seventh in batters struck out looking at 13. Logan Kimbro is tied for fifth in saves and games finished at eight
 
Savage Storm Notes
  • For midweek play, the Savage Storm made the trip to Weatherford to take on SWOSU, closing out the afternoon matchup with a 1-7 loss for the blue and yellow. 
  • Coming into the weekend, Southeastern is on a seven-game losing streak. The most recent win for SE was back on March 15th when the Savage Storm defeated Arkansas Tech 11-5 in Game 1 of the weekend series, ultimately dropping the series the Arkansas Tech.
  • In the game against the Bulldogs, the Savage Storm compiled one runs on six hits with one error. Wesley Mitchell  added a double, and Alex Showalter contributed a triple for SE. 
  • Mitchell is the offensive leader for Southeastern, ranking third in the GAC in slugging percentage (.680), ninth in RBI (30), second in homers (9), and ninth in total bases (66). Chase Keeton is fifth in slugging percentage (.646), sixth in homers (7), and Gage Dollins is tied for second in triples (3). Daniel Collins holds the fourth best ERA in the league at 3.32. 
  • In league standings, Southeastern is ranked eighth, with only one series sweep so far this season after beating Henderson State in all three games back in February.
