OBU Softball heads to the Lone Star State for doubleheader at Texas Women’s Wednesday

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist Softball will head to Denton, Texas, to take on the Pioneers Wednesday evening with a doubleheader on the midweek slate. 

The ladies in green and gold will face Texas Women's University for some midweek play Wednesday evening with a 4 p.m. first pitch to open up the doubleheader in Denton. 

Bison Notes
  • OBU Softball finished the weekend 2-1 against Henderson State on the road. The Bison took Game 1 with a 7-3 final but finished the day with a tough loss as the Reddies secured a 4-2 win over the visitors. The green and gold took the final game with a 5-2 win over the home team to secure the series for OBU, moving to 11-3 in conference play and 16-12 overall.
  • Morgan Max had a huge week with three homeruns, 12 RBI, and one double. Max closed out the week with a .429 batting average, going 6-14 at the plate with three runs scored on the week. With a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .579 on-base percentage, Max was rightfully dubbed GAC Player of the Week.
  • Jaycee Shaffer pitched two complete games this week, first at SNU and the second at HSU, earning a 3-0 record on the week. With a 2.58 ERA across 19.0 innings pitched in the last week of play, Shaffer compiled nine strikeouts while giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 15 hits, walking 10 batters and giving up four double and one homer over a three-game span. 
  • In the most recent week of play, OBU totaled a collective .322 batting average with nine homers, 10 doubles, one triples, 86 total bases, 31 RBI, 47 hits and 33 runs. The green and gold finished with a .589 team slugging percentage and a .418 on-base percentage. 
 
Pioneer Notes
  • TWU is 14-10 overall and an even 10-10 in conference play. The Pioneers are coming off of a loss to Texas A&M International. In home territory the Pioneers are 6-6 with a 4-4 road record. 
  • In the most recent doubleheader for the Pioneers, the home team took Game 1 with a 6-0 final and TAMU International claimed Game 2 with a 9-4 final to even out the series and send TWU into the midweek with a loss on their backs.
  • Hawwa Townsend appears to be the offensive leader for TWU with a .610 slugging percentage, three homers, 10 doubles, 17 RBI, 47 total bases, and 13 runs scored. Townsend is 28-77 at the plate with an on-base percentage of .410.
  • Allison Gonzalez is a consistent threat from the mound for TWU with a 2.49 ERA in 70.1 innings on the bump. Gonzales has totaled 38 strikeouts with a season record of 6-6 and a 1.09 WHIP with six complete games so far this season. #10 for the Pioneers has given up 29 runs (25 earned) on 63 hits, walking a total of 14 batters, holding opponents to a .233 batting average. 
  • TWU is in a three-way tie for third place in the league in the East Division of the Lone Star Conference. The Pioneers sit in the lower half of the rankings in each statistical category.
