OBU Baseball run rules Roadrunners to sweep MSU Denver in opening home series

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist Baseball is flawless on Bison Hill after securing their fifth consecutive victory and fourth win at home. 
 
The men in green and gold got the job done Sunday afternoon with another run rule to close out the series finale in seven innings at 12-2. Saturday's pair of wins secured the series for OBU, but Sunday's final score saw the Bison sweep the Roadrunners. The conclusion of Sunday's game sees the green and gold at 5-2 overall with a five game win streak headed into the new week.
 
The green and gold were first on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the opening stanza. Another three runs came across for the Bison in the second inning, putting OBU ahead, 5-0. The third inning went scoreless, but the bats got back in motion in the fourth. Each team tallied one run in the fourth. The bottom of the fifth saw the green and gold get back in their groove with four runs to extend the lead to 10-1. In the sixth inning, neither team scored but the seventh saw more movement. The Roadrunners put up another run as the Bison added a couple, taking the game in seven innings at 12-2. 
 
OBU totaled 12 runs on 13 hits, 10 RBI and two errors. 
 
DJ Van Atten was untouchable today, going 5-5 at the plate with four RBI and one run. The DH for OBU totaled a .733 batting average over the weekend's four games. 
 
Van Atten was one of four Bison to contribute a double. Jesse Tisdell, Lucas Schaefer and Keenan Morris each added a double to make up the OBU batting highlights. 
 
Tisdell went 2-4 from the plate with two RBI, Schaefer went 2-3 with three RBI and Matt Marsic went 1-2 with one RBI. 
 
Bryant Thornton (W, 2-0) secured his second win of the season with 6.0 innings on the mound, giving up one run on four hits, compiling three strikeouts and walking two batters. 
 
Logan Kimbro came in and finished the job for the green and gold with 1.0 inning on the bump, totaling one strikeout, while giving up one run on two hits and no walks. 
 
Next up for OBU Baseball is a trip to Arkansas Fort Smith on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. first pitch.
