SHAWNEE – OBU Baseball went 2-0 on the day, advancing to 3-0 on Bison Hill after Friday afternoon's win and 4-2 overall.
OBU Baseball continues to see success on Bison Hill as the green and gold take games 2 and 3 of the four-game series over MSU Denver.
After a big 13-3 run rule to start of the home slate, the Bison secured another pair of wins in Saturday's double header to secure the series.
Game 2
The green and gold opened up Saturday's action with a 1 p.m. first pitch for Game 2 of the series. An impressive 9-5 win sat on the horizon for OBU as
Ryan Turbeville (W,1-1) got the start for the Bison.
The Roadrunners were first to the board in the opening stanza with three runs to go the ball rolling early. The Bison answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs to close the gap to a one-run lead. The following inning saw the visitors go scoreless but the green and gold came back swinging. Lucas Schaefer walked, sending
Jesse Tisdell home to give the lead to the guys in green and gold. With a loaded basepath set up for
Zane Bennett, the right fielder for OBU claimed his first homer of the season in the form of a grand slam, burying the visitors by five. A throwing error saw Van Atten reach first as each runner advance and McAuliff scored, unearned, bringing the total to 9-3 for the Bison. The final runs came in favor of MSU Denver as a single two left scored a pair for the visitiors to bring the total to 9-5 in the top of the seventh, but the Roadrunners failed to continue the comeback.
Securing his first win on the mound today, Turbeville went 5.0 innings, compiling three strikes while giving up three runs on four hits and walking one.
Javarian Roquemore came in to close for OBU with 2.0 innings on the bump, giving up two runs on two hits and walking a pair.
The green and gold totaled nine runs on seven hits and three errors.
Bennett's grand slam places the junior amongst the top of the OBU offensive for Game 2. Bennett was 2-4 at the plate with two runs and five RBI. Van Atten went 2-4 at the plate with one run and two RBI.
Game 3
The third game of the series saw a lower scoring game on both sides with a 4-3 final, still in favor of the Bison.
The opening inning saw one run come across for both teams. In the second inning, the green and gold took the lead as a throwing error from the Roadrunners gave room for
Jacob Campbell to come across and give the advantage to the Bison. The third inning saw another solo run come in for each side. In the top of the fourth, a wild pitch made way for a Roadrunner to score, tying things up at three-a-piece. In the sixth inning, McAuliff singled to right, bringing
Keenan Morris across for OBU to retake the lead, 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth. A scoreless top of the seventh shut the door on a rally for MSU Denver, finalizing the 4-3 total.
Nick Meyer got the start for OBU in Game 3 with 3.2 innings on the bump, compiling four strikeouts, while giving up three runs, four hits and walking two.
Jalen Johnston came in for a quick appearance with 1.1 innings on the mound, tallying two strikeouts, giving up no runs, one hit and walking one.
William Ellis (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the season, closing things out with 2.0 innings on the mound, securing two strikeouts, while giving up no runs, no hits and no walks.
The Bison totaled four runs on seven hits and two errors.
Campbell led the way offensively with the only double of the day for OBU.

Sunday at 12 p.m. the series finale with the Roadrunners will commence. A final win over MSU Denver would see the Bison sweep in their opening weekend at home.
