Bison Baseball run rules MSU Denver at home opener Friday afternoon

SHAWNEE – OBU Baseball took care of business in the home opener against MSU Denver, claiming their first win at home in seven innings.

Bison Baseball had a phenomenal home opener, closing out the afternoon with a 13-3 victory in seven innings against the Roadrunners of MSU Denver.

The green and gold were first to strike with a sac fly from Lucas Schaefer to send Jesse Tisdell across home plate, putting the Bison on the board early.

The visitors wasted no time, replying with a run in the top of the second to even the score. The following inning went scoreless, but the Roadrunners got back to work, putting up their second run in the fourth inning to take the lead at 2-1.

In the fifth inning, the OBU offense unleashed on the visitors with a big eight run inning to bring the total to 9-2.

The sixth inning saw MSU Denver chip away at the deficit with a homer over the left field wall. The green and gold offense diminished the Roadrunner's efforts in the top of the inning as Schaefer left the yard for the third time this season and the first time in Ford Park. Along with Schaefer came DJ Van Atten as the two-run homer from Schaefer brought the OBU lead to 11-3.

With the hopes of a run rule within reach, the Bison took care of business in the bottom of the seventh with another pair of runs to shut down the Roadrunner's hopes of making a comeback.

The green and gold secured a 13-3 victory for their first home win of the 2025 season.

David Stuart (W, 1-1) earned his first win of the season after 6.0 innings on the mound. Stuart compiled four strikes while giving up three runs on five hits and walking four batters.

Schaefer, Van Atten and Matt Marsic were at the head of the OBU defense with another Schaefer home run for three on the season. Van Atten and Marsic each doubled.

Tisdell and Schaefer each tallied one stolen base to lead the base running efforts for the Bison.

Van Atten and Schaefer each compiled three RBI. Van Atten went 3-3 at the plate while Keenan Morris went 2-3 at the plate.

The green and gold will return to Ford Park for games two and three of the four game series. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. with game three to follow.
