EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist Baseball finds their way to the win column after a Monday afternoon matchup with Northeastern State to close out opening weekend action.
The Bison opened up the season Friday at the UCO Festival. After Saturday's matchup the green and gold were left with a pair of tough losses to start off the season, but Monday afternoon saw a change in pace for OBU.
Monday afternoon saw the green and gold secure their first win in the form of a 13-5 victory over Northeastern.
The Riverhawks were first to strike with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and second innings for an early 4-0 lead. OBU got to work in the fifth inning bringing in three to shorten the NSU lead to one run. The sixth inning saw a major change in trajectory with the
Bison totaling 10 runs to jump in front by a comfortable but. The bottom of the seventh inning saw the final run of the afternoon come in, this time in favor of Northeastern, but the sixth inning put down the Riverhawks in a devastating way.
OBU totaled 13 runs on 14 hits with two errors while NSU tallied five runs on seven hits with no errors.
The Bison compiled 11 RBI with eight total runners left stranded. Lucas Shafer leads the green and gold in homers after earning his second of the season over NSU. Keenan Norris and
Jaxon McAuliff joined the bomb squad.
Jesse Tisdell and Jayden Schaefer each contributed doubles for OBU.
Bryant Thornton earned his first win of the season on the bump after throwing for 3.0 innings, giving up no runs, no hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
Logan Kimbro got the Bison started on the mound with 3.0 innings pitched, giving up four runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
William Ellis went 2.0 innings giving up one run on three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.
Jalen Johnston was the closer for the green and gold with a quick 1.0 inning giving up no runs on no hits, no walks and one strikeout.
Next up for Oklahoma Baptist Baseball is the home opener against Metropolitan State University of Denver. The four-game series will begin Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon will see a double header set to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon will see the conclusion of the series with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
