Smith and Shafer lead home run derby at Southeastern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon

DURANT, Okla. – Bison Baseball dominated the Savage Storm with an astonishing offensive performance for a double-digit victory over Southeastern.

The green and gold wasted no time at the plate with four home runs in the opening stanza, putting six runs on the board before the Savage Storm came up with a single out. Braden Smith and Jayden Shafer were big contributors with a pair of home runs each. 

The Bison totaled a 17-7 win over the home team with 17 runs on 16 hits, eight home runs, two doubles, and two errors. The last time the Bison total more than eight home runs was in the 2023 season when the green and gold had nine homers in a single game.

Shafer started off the scoring for OBU in the first inning with a two-run homer. In the fourth inning, Shafer left the yard again in the fourth to add his second homer of the afternoon. The first basemen for the green and gold went 2-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs. 

Smith found his footing at the plate in the fifth inning with a shot over the left field wall to start off the inning. In his next at bat, Smith left the yard with a three-run homer bringing the total to 16-2 for the Bison. The catcher for the Bison went 2-4 at the plate with four RBI and two runs.

Matt Marsic, DJ Van Atten, Spencer Dickinson, and Keenan Morris also contributed to the home run total with one each. Dickinson and Morris also added doubles for OBU. 

Marsic was 2-6 at the plate with one RBI and two runs. Van Atten was 2-3 at the plate with one RBI and two runs. Dickinson was 3-4 as the plate with four RBI and two runs.

Morris was 2-4 at the plate with three RBI and two runs.

Marcus Peter (W, 1-0) earned his first win this season with 4.0 innings on the mound, giving up two earned runs on four hits. Peters walked a couple and compiled seven strikeouts. 

Nick Meyer went 1.0 inning on the bump, giving up no runs on no hits, walking one and striking out one. 

David Piers totaled 1.0 innings pitched, giving up two runs on two hits, one earned run, and two strikeouts. 

Javarian Roquemore went 1.0 innings on the mound, giving up three earned runs on one hit and striking out two. 

Next up for the Bison is a trip to Weatherford for a weekend series with Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The action will begin Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday will see a doubleheader with the first pitch beginning at noon and the series finale to follow.
