Bison Baseball splits Sunday action against Arkansas-Monticello

SHAWNEE – OBU Baseball takes Game 1 and drops Game 2 to leave the fate of the series on Monday's performance. 

Oklahoma Baptist Baseball started off the conference series against Arkansas-Monticello with a 6-3 win in the opening game. The Bison cooled off in the second game, allowing the Weevils to even the series score with a 16-8 final in the day's closing action. 

Game 1
Jalen Johnston (W, 1-0) earned his first win of the season with 1.2 innings on the mound, giving up no runs and one hit. Johnston walked one batter and totaled a pair of strikeouts. 

Logan Kimbro (S,1) got the save with 1.0 inning on the bump to close things out for OBU. Kimbro gave up no runs and one hit. 

David Stuart started things off for the Bison with 6.1 innings pitched, giving up three runs on six hits. Alongside three earned runs, Stuart walked three batters and totaled four strikeouts.

The green and gold totaled, six runs on six hits, and three homers.

Jesse Tisdell, Lucas Schaefer and Keenan Morris made up today's bomb squad in the first game. 
Tisdell's efforts at the plate saw the center fielder for the Bison go 1-4 at the plate, racking up three RBI and scoring one run himself. 

Schaefer was also 1-4 in the first game with a solo home run as his singular hit. 

Morris was 1-3 at the plate with two RBI to close out the first game. 

Game 2
The second game saw UAM find another round of energy, racking up a 16-8 total with two runs in the opening stanza, three runs in the second, another trio in the fourth, five in the sixth inning and three in the seventh frame. 

Bryant Thornton (L, 2-1) faces his first loss of the season after a tough outing in today's second game. In 3.0 innings on the mound, Thornton gave up seven runs on seven hits, walked two batters and struck out four. 

Marcus Peters had the best time on the mound for OBU with 2.0 innings pitched, giving up one run on one hit, walking one and striking out four. 

Tyler Biggs struggled in his first outing of the season with 0.0 innings pitched, giving up three runs on two hits and walking one. 

Javarian Roquemore went 1.0 innings on the bump giving up two runs on two hits and walking one. 

David Piers closed things out for the Bison with 1.0 innings on the mound, giving up three runs on two hits and walking a couple. 

The green and gold compiled eight runs on 10 hits, four doubles, one homer, two stolen bases and eight total runners left on base. 

Zane Bennett had a three-run homer for the Bison in the fifth inning. Bennett's shot to left field brought the OBU total to six, just a pair of runs shy of a tie ballgame. 

Schaefer, Morris, Matt Marsic and Austin Gonzales each added a double for the green and gold. Schaefer and Morris tallied the couple of stolen bags. 

The Bison will be back in action.
