Bison Baseball opens rescheduled weekend Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
Monday afternoon will see a 12 p.m. first pitch to close the series out.
Bison Notes
- The green and gold are 6-4 overall and 1-2 in conference after falling short in the three-game series against Southern Arkansas in the GAC opener.
- OBU opened up the run at home with a four-game series against Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Bison swept the Roadrunners with a pair of run-rules to open and close the series.
- The green and gold are few games short of their previously scheduled meetings after weather postponed midweek matchups with Arkansas-Fort Smith and Pittsburg State.
- The last meeting with UAM was in the opening round of the 2024 GAC Tournament where the Weevils ultimately ended up on top.
- In the most recent action for OBU, the Bison took the opening matchup with SAU but dropped the following pair of games to go 1-2 on the weekend.
- The green and gold have a few powerhouse guys at the plate with DJ Van Atten leading the team with a .462 batting average, ranking second in the conference. Van Atten has compiled seven doubles to lead the GAC, eight hits to rank fourth in the league, six runs, and 11 RBI. The DH for the Bison is right at .500 in on-base percentage and holds a .641 slugging percentage.
- Lucas Schaefer leads OBU in homers with three on the season. Schaefer has also compiled one double, 13 RBI for fourth in the GAC, and five runs on eight hits. #24 is 3-3 for stolen bases with an on-base percentage of .341.
- Bryant Thorton has been a big piece of the staff for the green and gold with a 1.15 ERA in 15.2 innings on the mound, holding the second best in the league. Thornton is 2-0 on the season with a .89 WHIP. Wearing #8 for OBU, Thornton has given up four runs on 11 hits, two earned runs and three walks. Giving up a total of three doubles, one triple, and one homer for an opponent batting average of .196 while compiling 14 strikeouts.
Weevils Notes
- The Weevils are 8-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. UAM opened their conference run at home against Southern Nazarene, sweeping the Crimson Storm with a 22-4 run-rule Sunday afternoon. Monday's doubleheader saw a 13-1 run-rule in the first game of the day and a 7-2 final in the series finale.
- The two losses this season for the Weevils come in the form of a 6-5 final for No. 18, Ashland University on Feb. 2 and Delta State with a 2-1 final in Monticello for the visitors.
- UAM is an offensively dominating team with several big contributors to the Weevils success. Chaz Poppy leads the team in RBI with 14 on the season. Poppy is batting .486 for first place in the league with 18 hits in 37 at bats with nine total runs. #2 for UAM has compiled three doubles, one triple and one homer with an on-base percentage of .558 and a .703 slugging percentage.
- Chase Cripps is another team leader with a couple of homers, a pair of triples, and a lone double. Cripps has tallied 12 RBI while batting .235. #9 for the Weevils holds a slugging percentage of .559 and a .381 on-base mark.
- Roc Hawthorne and Woolf Kirk are the team leaders in stolen bases with Hawthorne at 7-7 and Kirk at 6-6.
- Connor Irvine is a big factor for the Weevils on the mound with a 2.12 ERA at 3-0 on the season with 17.0 innings on the bump. Thus far, Irvine has given up seven runs on 16 hits, three doubles, one homer and four earned runs. Irvine has also amassed18 strikeouts with an opponent batting average of .250.
